iAnimate Student Spotlight features Adam Moder, an animator and educator from Melbourne, Australia. Adam love cartoony, exaggerated styles as well as realistic creature animation for VFX. He has a background in animated TV series and game development.
Adam is currently teaching 3D Art and Animation at Academy of Information Technology. He is also a freelancer Animator and have been to different animation jobs giving his passion for this career.
Student Animation Journey
Adam took the following Feature Student Workshop at iAnimate with the instructors:
- Feature Workshop 3 with Mike Walling (Bungie Studios)
- Feature Workshop 4 with Tal Shwarzman (Pixar Animation Studio)
I enjoy coming up with interesting and unique ideas for my assignments, before planning and shooting reference. I tend to block out my shots in Spline from the start, creating key story telling poses before adding the breakdowns and inbetweens, and I try to incorporate animation principles within each pose (drag, overlap, anticipation, squash and stretch etc). Of course feedback is vital, and the regular Reviews and peer feedback are great for direction and 'fresh eyes' on my work.
iAnimate refreshed my skills in Body Mechanics - creating convincing physical motion - accurately depicting weight, balance, inertia and momentum - and forming strong, dynamic poses. Performance animation taught me about focused acting - facial expressions, tension, subtext and dialogue, as well as adding 'texture' to the acting beats for more engagement and appeal.Adam's Student Reel
